G.R Christian sprints past Lowell

 

Grand Rapids Christian swept four events en route to a 90-47 girls track team win over Lowell.

The Eagles were dominant in the long jump, high jump, 100 hurdles and the 100 dash.

The Red Arrows recorded four firsts in the 200 and 400 runs, the 1600-meter relay and in the shot put.

Kendall Hewitt took top honors in the 200 run with a time of 29.65.

The Red Arrow also had a leg in the Red Arrows’ winning 1600-relay. Hewitt was joined by Rachal Walters, Kallie Holzhueter and Rebekah Betts. The foursome stopped the clock in 4:26.93.

Walters came home in a winning time of 1:03.34 in the 400-meter run.

Matti Newman powered her way to a win in the shot put with a throw of 30-6 1/2.

“Matti had a fantastic day throwing a personal best. It was 4 feet farther than she has ever thrown,” said Lowell coach Robin Briggs.

It was Hewitt, Hannah Boon, Danele Starkey and Stephanie Vosburg winning the 800-meter relay in a time of 2:02.75.

Holzhueter posted a winning time of 2:31.41 in the 800-meter run. Thde senior took a second in the 1600, coming home in 5:43.64.

Jessica Graves garnered a second in the 3200 run, recording a time of 13:14.98.

Betts’ time of 53:05 earned her a second in the 300 hurdles.

Vosburg’s throw of 88-06 placed her secnd in the discus field.

Abby Ellis cleared 7-0 in the pole  vault to take second.

“The meet was a good eye opener for the girls after beating Creston by a large number. We are still weak in the high jump and long jump and sprints,” Briggs concluded. “East (next on the schedule) is going to be a tough meet for us.”
