Week four was the week where the area’s best football teams settled in. With all but one exception, all of Mi Sports page’s Top 10 won on Friday night.
The most entertaining, hands down, was Holland’s dramatic 29-28 win over Northview. It’s time to give the Wildcats some love. They may be much better than anyone expected. I had someone suggest a few weeks ago the best thing to happen to Northview was the insertion of Darren Kaputska as starting quarterback following Northview’s starting QB getting injured.
Staying with the O-K White, a league maligned over the years for being top two heavy (Lowell & EGR), appears to be much stronger and more balanced. Let’s not jump the gun, though, week five will help answer that question as Grand Rapids Christian travels to Lowell in a battle of unbeatens while Greenville (3-1) entertains five-time defending Division 3 State Champion East Grand Rapids.
1. Lowell (4-0) had to work in its 35-6 win over Forest Hills Central. The Rangers are a pretty good 1-3 football team and will seriously challenge Holland in the O-K Black. The Red Arrows, now must focus on the undefeated Eagles.
2. Holland (4-0) holds onto the two spot with win over Northview.
3. Muskegon (4-0), rolls East Kentwood 36-16, now prepares for showdown with Rockford.
4. Rockford (3-1), Is this the same Rams club that played in week one? Once again a Ralph Munger coached team just gets better and better with each week as evidenced by its 41-16 dismantling of West Ottawa.
5. Zeeland West (4-0) put the hurt on a lesser talented Holland Christian team.
6.Grand Rapids Christian (4-0) toughest challenges to date South Christian and Forest Hills Central. Eagles have not had much success with Lowell the last couple of years.
7. East Grand Rapids’ (3-1) road game at Greenville will tell a lot about the progress the Pioneers have made since its week one loss to Holland.
8. Grand Haven (3-1) moves up one with 38-14 win over a not-so-good Jenison team.
9. Catholic Central (3-1) mulls Hastings 42-7.
10. With impressive outing against Holland, Northview (3-1)Â bumps up to 10; Zeeland East (3-1) remains the same with easy win (49-14) over Wyoming Park.
