MI Sports Page High School Football Top 10

Grand Rapids Christian leap frogs Rockford with its win over Northview while Zeeland West continues its winning ways.

Something had to give, Lowell’s losing streak at East Grand Rapids its 12-year streak of not losing two regular season games in a row. The latter remained in tack, the streak at Memorial Field has ended.

A little shuffling in this week’s top 10, but just as much position solidification by by area teams.

1. Grand Rapids Christian (6-0) fended off a pesky group of Wildcats to post a convincing 38-13 win. The Eagles remain one of two undefeated teams left in the Mi Sports Page Top 10. Christian’s play and its win over Lowell, a team that beat Rockford, makes it this week’s choice for number one.

2.  Rockford (5-1) punished East Kentwood 41-6 in O-K Red league play. Unless the Rams slip up, they should be your 2011 Red champions.

3. Zeeland West (6-0), a 56-12 winner over Wyoming Rogers, has games with Unity Christian Friday, and then Hamilton and Byron Center.

4. Lowell (5-1) recovered nicely from a disappointing performance against the Eagles with a big win (23-14) over rival East Grand Rapids.

5. Muskegon (5-1) did just enough to discard Jenison,  20-12. Not impressive, but any win following a loss to Rockford is commendable.

6. Grand Haven (5-1) other than it’s loss to Rockford the Bucs have been stellar. Grand Haven bested Hudsonville 28-6.

7. Catholic Central (4-1) building toward another playoff run derailed Caledonia, 14-7.

8. Holland (4-1) recovered its overtime loss to Kenwa Hills with a 40-3 thumping over Reeths-Puffer.

9. Zeeland East (5-1) strong in its 28-0 win against Unity Christian.

10. This week’s 10-spot cluster is filled by Northview (4-2) and East Grand Rapids (4-2).
